It has been an action-packed year for The Charlottesville Food Co-op!After winning the Tom Tom Crowdfunded Pitch Night in April, the CFC has grown into an enthusiastic group, dedicated to creating a community-owned food cooperative in the heart of Charlottesville. Our mission is to build a movement to bring a community-owned grocery store (food co-op) to a historically Black neighborhood in Charlottesville. We intend to build this grocery store neighbor by neighbor, organizing community members to take matters into our own hands, and ensure people are prioritized over profits. More than a place to buy food, this co-op will be a living, breathing manifestation of change: a grassroots response to food insecurity and historic inequalities rooted in justice, democracy and community organizing. This year, we have laid much of the groundwork for building a new business and have begun planning our first membership event in the new year!
